The Kingston Springs Gazette is here to spotlight the stories that matter most to our community. Our new column, Word on the Street, features updates about our neighbors, local businesses and important events. Check out the Word on the Street for Feb. 22 below.
The local collective on Main Street previously known as Fred & Mary’s Home has transitioned its ownership to another vendor within the space, Jollifrogs. The shop will be closed for the rest of February for some exciting renovations. Follow @jollifrogs for updates! Cheatham County Animal Control is pleased to be returning to PetSmart in nearby Bellevue on March 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with several amazing dogs that can be adopted on site. All will have a reduced fee of just $25, cash or check, during the event! Follow their Facebook page this coming week to see who will be making the trip. It’s Girl Scout cookie season! Support South Cheatham’s only local troop #1157 by buying cookies around town. Their next available date is Saturday, Feb. 22 at The ARK from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Three Kingston Springs Elementary School Cardinals teams are headed to the basketball championships this Saturday at Sycamore. Join us in wishing the best of luck to the 4th grade boys, 5th grade girls and 6th grade girls as they fight for the top spot! The Harpeth High School (HHS) basketball teams are set to make an appearance in the district tournament in Hickman this weekend (postponed due to weather). The boys, who have a 13-11 record, will face East Hickman. The girls, who have a 4-21 record, will face the county’s No. 1 seed Cheatham. Huge shout out to the public works departments in both Kingston Springs and Pegram, who are responsible for clearing our roads quickly and efficiently during our second major snow event of the year. An honorable mention goes out to Bubba Parker, who kept the community informed about road conditions through his frequent posting to Facebook group Hip Kingston Springs. The HHS agriculture program was awarded a grant from Honeybee Tennessee to start an apiary. The school received 10 beekeeper suits, two hives and two complete sets of beekeeping tools. Honeybee Tennessee will also help HHS to acquire its bees locally in the spring. Two of HHS’s wrestlers are headed to the TSSAA state tournament this weekend in Franklin. Join us in sending good luck to Brian Bolton (106 pounds) and Tanner Aldridge (144 pounds). Head over to West Glow Farm on March 16 at 4 p.m. to get a lesson from local chef Hal Holden-Bache on how to properly roast a chicken from beginning to end. You will also make Yukon mashed potatoes and honey and herb pan roasted heirloom carrots to serve alongside the roasted chicken. Reserve your spot here. Grab your little ones and bring them to Little Explorers' first Craft Workshop on flower arranging at The Land on March 1. They will learn how to create their own flower arrangements, explore creativity and practice important skills like using scissors safely, pouring water and arranging flowers with care. Ages 3-5 can participate from 10 to 11 a.m. and ages 6-12 can participate in the workshop from noon to 1 p.m. Register your child here.
