Since 1959, the Kingston Springs Volunteer Fire Department (KSVFD) has been helping the town of Kingston Springs and participating in local events.
What once was a bucket relay system now has multiple vehicles and firemen ready to respond.
The department, which employs volunteers, not only responds to emergencies but also participates in various community events, like bringing trucks to school sports teams and riding in parades. They're a prominent staple in the community.
"We protect 52 square miles and roughly 9500 residents," says Fire Chief Jeremy Vaughan, who was recently appointed to the top post.
He explained that he began volunteering with the fire department in high school. The fire
department has around 20 members, and are always looking for more volunteers to help.
The fire department has a dedicated team who desires to reach out to the community, and they are hoping to have an open house in the near future.
Positions are open not only for firefighters, but other offices as well.
"For anyone that's considering volunteering, we would love for them to come down and visit us – speak to us in person," Vaughan said. "We can answer any questions they have."
The department has plans to reach out to the community through various outreach
programs and town events. They've worked with Boy Scouts of America as well as the health
science program at Harpeth High School. Vaughan explained that the department is also looking into setting up booths at events like the Farmer's and Artisans Market, annual holiday
celebrations, and the fishing rodeo.
The fire department reaches out to many local sports teams and schools, like Harpeth's
marching band and soccer teams as well as Kingston Springs Elementary School.
The dedicated team at the Kingston Springs Fire Department puts in virtuous effort to help the
the thousands of citizens in the area.
The volunteers that make up the department protect the citizens of Kingston, and, as said by the KSVFD noted on their Facebook page, "They are proud to serve and be a part of this community!"
