Harpeth forms girls’ flag football team

The Cheatham County School District approved the formation of a girls’ flag football team, and its season will take place in the spring 2025 semester.

Practices will begin the second week of March, with five weeks of games to follow.

“It is the first season that the TSSAA has sanctioned it as a sport,” Harpeth High School Athletic Director Ricky Woods said. “For each home game there are three schools. They all play each other.”

Harpeth’s home game will be on April 3, where they will play Cheatham County and Sycamore.

“All three of our high schools experienced amazing responses from our female students during flag football interest meetings held at each. We are very excited to watch this sport grow and to watch our new flag players perform under the lights,” District Athletic Director Jeff Hobbs said during the county school board meeting in November.

The format will be “round robin” matchups among three schools, with each one playing two games a night and games lasting an hour. Admission for each game will be $5.

Additional high schools Harpeth will compete against include Heritage, Greenbrier and East Robertson.
