CCHGA appoints curator for new museum

The Cheatham County Historical & Genealogical Association (CCHGA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Cheatham County resident Dolly Corbett, curator for the Cheatham County Museum. 

Mrs. Corbett moved to Tennessee in 2019 to be near her family after living in the Cincinnati area most of her life. She and her husband Charles reside in Pleasant View. 

She spent seventeen years as curator at the Museum at the Friends Home where she was responsible for the care, exhibition and storage of the museum’s extensive collection within a 22 room building. Other duties included outreach programs within the surrounding communities, regional representative to the Ohio Historical Society and member of the Underground Railroad Freedom Corridor through the nationally recognized Underground Railroad Museum in Cincinnati. 

Mrs. Corbett states this position is her passion. 

A museum curator manages collections of works of art and artifacts. Day-to-day, curators attend to the care and display of items, such as artwork, collections, historical or scientific items, as well as the acquisition of new works of art, usually with the aim of educating the public. They also provide information and design displays for the benefit of visitors. 

The Cheatham County Museum will open at its new location at 835 S. Main Street later this year. 

About the Cheatham County Museum and the Cheatham County Historical & Genealogical Association:

The Cheatham County Historical & Genealogical Association, a 501(c)3 non profit organization, was formed in 1994. The association collects and stores historical and genealogical information and makes it available to the public through a museum. The museum displays artifacts pertaining to Cheatham County such as farm tools, musical instruments, maps, photographs, local business items, school items, art of historic places and buildings, a Military Wall of Honor and more. ​ 

The CCHGA also provides several special presentations throughout the year with speakers on various historical subjects.
