The Cheatham County Animal Shelter (CCAC) has launched a new website in its latest ploy to get volunteers to turn out for the animals.
Summer is a busy time for CCAC, where they have a revolving door of dogs, puppies, cats, and particularly, kittens.
The new website is designed to help new volunteers sign up for a shift at the Sams Creek campus for dog walking, loving on cats, doing laundry or dishes, and other miscellaneous chores.
The shelter is open to volunteers 365 days a year – despite being closed to the general public on Sundays and Wednesdays as well as on Federal holidays.
There are four 90 minute time slots for dog walking from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily – and from 8 a.m. to noon on holidays. CCAC says walking dogs is a great way to get your own exercise in while getting the animals out of their kennels.
The shelter aims to give each dog four daily walks, but when they’re full of dogs and short on volunteers this doesn’t always happen. Dog walking and interacting with the animals is the best way to ensure they’re ready to find their forever home, CCAC says.
If you can’t make it out to the shelter in Pegram to walk dogs, you can always take your turn fostering puppies and kittens. You can also consider donating to the shelter.
“From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for your interest in volunteering with CCAC! We hope that you will join us,” the shelter’s new website says.
